This trimester has been a disappointment for my genius project, but that will change in trimester two. There are two main reasons as to why my project has not pick up yet. The main one is that I have been extremely busy working on college stuff. Between taking college essay writing courses and all the other stuff that comes with college applications, I have had very little time to play video games, which is an issue since that is my genius project. Also AP Calculus has taken a toll on my time as well since I did not expect it to be so challenging. The other main obstacle that has been in my way is that most big brand games come out at the end of the year. They began coming out October and will continue until New Years. This directly conflicts with all my college writing because both are at the same time. I have been cramped on time as it is, so I haven´t had much time to play video games, let alone write reviews about them. However, I will be finishing everything college related over this upcoming Thanksgiving break, so Trimester 2 is looking promising in terms of my Genius Project.

A few weeks back, I spoke with a professional in the room which was Ty Runner's dad. We had a both great and long conversation about my genius project video game blog. He gave me many useful tips to proceed with my genius project. The first thing he told me to do was to draw in the readers with the most popular games. For instance, I do not have anything about fort nite in my blog and he told me it would be in my blog's best interest to add something about it since it is the most popular game of 2018 even though I am not too fond of it. While fort nite is not my favorite game I have to be conscious of who my intended audience is and do what will get me more views. Another piece of advice I was given by Mr. Runner is to go more in depth in games. My first blog was on NBA 2K19 and I basically just discussed all the improved game mechanics from 2K18. He said I should also have a section for people who have never played a NBA 2K game at all. He also said to write on the popular games that are being released. Today I spoke with Mr. Trask. He told me that I should go and look at other game reviewers and see if there is a ¨template" for how to write them. He also told me on top of that to make them funny so that I stand out from other game reviewers.
![]() I have finally decided what my Genius Project will be about. All throughout junior year I had no idea what I wanted my Genius Project to be about. But last night it hit me. I was on my Play Station 4 purchasing the latest NBA 2k game when I realized how many new games I am buying each year. This got me thinking that I could write blogs reviewing each new game I buy. And with these next few months having tons of new games I would like to review- NBA 2K19, Fallout 76, Red Dead Redemption 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4- there should be no shortage in content on my blogs. Obviously buying the games to review can get pricey but I have some money saved up from my job as an umpire (earlier blog posts) so that will not be a problem. However there are going to be some obstacles as well. Drawing in an audience will not be an easy task, especially with .weebly in the url. After getting my first blog post up on NBA 2K19 once I have played and reviewed the game, I will probably end up creating social media for my game reviews. By creating social media accounts on Instagram and twitter, it will be easier to get views on my blogs. Without making social media there is no way people will find there way to my blog. Getting rid of the .weebly in the url could also help as it would give the website a more professional look. I will spend the Fridays in class working on the social media accounts and branding since must of the other work will just be playing new video games and writing about it. This also gives me a great excuse to spend more time playing video games during the school week. I am writing this a little late: a week or two after I already had done my genius pitch. So i am going to be talking about what went well and what I can approve upon for my next pitch in April. First I could have been more prepared for my presentation. I thought I was decently prepared for my pitch and I knew enough about my topic, but when I stepped in front of my class, I forgot everything I had prepared for. So for my next presentation I want to have a fully memorized, word for word script. Also my slideshow could be improved since it was a little bland. I should add words to each slide that remind me of what part of my presentation I am at. I think I had a very good idea, just my presentation skills hurt how I was able to portray what my project is about. With better preparation and a better slide show, I should be able to make my next pitch a lot better.
This blog post is a little past due. The reason I am doing it so late is because I didn't know what I was doing my project on. I was thinking about picking up trash around my city, but that was not an idea I was excited to work on at all. So now I have made my project relating to my job(umpiring) which I think I will enjoy much more. I am going to make ads and put them on instagram and facebook in the last quarter of 2018. The reason I am doing it towards the end of the year is because that is when most people sign up for umpiring since it is a few months before the baseball season starts. I will target kids 13+ who have an interest in baseball. On top of that I am going to create a more refined rule book for the new kids since most of them will not want to read the full book. This will help them learn the rules faster since it will be shorter and easier to comprehend. I may add more parts to my project if I see any ways to improve the umpire program that I am apart of, but I am glad that I changed my project before it was too late.
I have not found what I want to do yet, but i am considering doing a couple things. I am thinking about doing something to help the less fortunate, but I have not came up with how i will do that. I am passionate about this because I feel we live a pretty privileged live in California, and it would be nice to give back. I am considering going to Mexico to build homeless people houses, helping kids with mental disabilities play sports, or even just pick up all the trash I see around Carlsbad. I don't think I would need to brainstorm with anyone in specific if I were to go down this path because it is not necessarily a unique Genius project, but rather one that helps many people.
